By Marchette Chute

If you love Shakespeare, you will cherish this book above all others. For through its pages walks the man himself--"gentle" Shakespeare, who had one of the most completely satisfying lives, and probably one of the happiest of all great men on record.

With all the libraries of books written about Shakespeare, this biography comes as a complete surprise for the freshness of its approach. It contains not one iota of fiction. All its vast wealth of detail comes from contemporary documents--from theater programs and real estate deals and musty wills and church records of births, marriages, burials, and legal cases, and land sales and rents. The Tudor English kept accounts of everything!

-- From the Book Club brochure by Bernadine Kielty

Book: Very Good. Dust Jacket: Good. The jacket has shelf-ware on all edges and spine. The book boards are red cloth with a gilt image and title on the spine. The front cover is blind-stamped with William Shakespeare's image. There is rubbing on the boards and bumping on the backboard's bottom edge. There is a 2mm blind stamped on the bottom board edge indicating a BCE. The text block has slight tanning, is clean and unmarked, and the binding is intact. I've added an Archival Polyester Mylar Book Cover. 397pp
