This four-volume set by Carl Sandburg encompasses more than 2,000 pages covering the War Years under President Abraham Lincoln. The work Sandburg has given us is not only a biography of Lincoln and a history of the Civil War. It is itself a battlefield, a sprawling panorama of people and issues and conflicts held together only by Sandburg's absorption with the central figure. Sandburg's "Lincoln" has become an inexhaustible storehouse from which has been drawn a myriad of other Lincolns. These volumes contain 426 half-tones of photographs and 244 cuts of cartoons, letters, and documents.

Book: Very good. Dust jacket: None. Dark blue cloth with tweed design, gilt lettering on the spine, and blind-stamped with Lincoln's signature on the front cover. The board corners are bumped, and there is slight rubbing. The text block head is top-stained yellow. The fore-edge is tanned, and the pages are deckled. The tail edge has a black ink soiling on the corners. The inner block is clean and unmarked. Volume I 660pp, Volume 2 673pp, Volume 3 515pp, Volume 4 655pp. Volume I shows the copyright page shows the year as 1939 with m.9.57 code. Volume 2 - 4, the copyright year 1939 with no code.
