There is discoloration and fraying on the corners. The spine also has rubbing to the head and tail. Light soiling alongside text block edge. The front endpaper corner has adhered to the front pastedown. The book is cracked between the frontispiece and the title page.
This copy of the book has matching dates 1889 on the title and copyright pages, indicating a first edition [BAL 3429]. This copy of the book also has the second issue points:
- There is no half-title printed on the recto of the frontispiece.
- Lacks the "S" like ornament between "The" and "King" on page 59.
- It also has the type breaks on the last 3 lines of page 72.
